I wrote Fossegrimmen in 2009 for cellist, Gemma Rosefield. I was very keen not to write yet another Elegy for solo cello – so this is a bonkers, sprite filled fantasy based on some hardanger fidlle tunes and the tale of a mutton loving water sprite. Tonny Woolard has taken this virtuoso party piece to the MusicaArte festival in Switzerland this October. Let’s hope he packed a leg of mutton in his suitcase…..
